Position Title: Photography Teacher
Grade Levels: 5th-8th Grade
Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Contract Period: ASAP - February 14, 2025 (possible contract extension)
Compensation: Paid hourly, includes 1 hour of paid lesson planning time per week.

No Classes:

  • 12/23 - 1/3 (Winter Break)
  • 1/20 - 1/21 (MLK Day)

Must Attend an In-Person Orientation

Position Summary:

We are seeking a creative and passionate Photography Teacher to lead an engaging program for students in grades 5-8 at Hurley Elementary. This position offers an exciting opportunity to inspire young learners through the art of photography, fostering creativity and storytelling while building foundational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement photography lesson plans using the organization’s curriculum, introducing students to basic photography techniques, concepts, and equipment.
  • Teach a range of photography skills, including composition, lighting, and photo editing, tailored to the developmental levels of 5th-8th grade students.
  • Create a supportive and dynamic classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and self-expression.
  • Monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and adapting lessons to meet diverse learning needs and abilities.
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom, ensuring proper use and care of photography equipment and materials.
  • Facilitate opportunities for students to showcase their work, such as quarterly exhibits or presentations.
  • Collaborate with other educators and staff to integrate photography with other artistic and educational content.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or experience in Photography, Visual Arts, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching photography or related subjects to middle school-aged students.
  • Proficiency with photography equipment and software (e.g., cameras, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom).
  • Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Commitment to the organization’s mission of providing equitable access to art education.
