General Description

The Director of CSD provides leadership, direction, and continuity for long-term planning and operational execution in educational, scholarship, and administrative activities for academic programs and on behalf of the students, staff, and faculty. The Director reports to and advises the Dean of the College of Education regarding the School.

Essential Functions/Primary Responsibilities

Leadership
  • Establishes a positive and supportive environment for students, staff and faculty.
  • Fosters commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility by creating and implementing a comprehensive diversity plan that includes actively recruiting and retaining diverse faculty, staff and students, and preparing all CSD graduates to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Facilitates a collaborative working environment through a commitment to shared governance.
  • Serves as a member of the College of Education Leadership Team.

Personnel Supervision and Professional Development
  • Promotes CSD advancement through faculty and staff professional development
  • Oversees search processes for staff and faculty
  • Coordinates with the COEPC to implement Faculty Review processes
  • Completes annual evaluations/reflections of direct report faculty and staff
  • Hires, supervises, and reviews adjunct faculty and supervisors

Fiscal Responsibilities

Provide fiscal leadership and stewardship of resources including:
  • Developing faculty loads
  • Identifying adjuncts needs
  • Developing the Master Academic Schedule
  • Developing the budget and enrollment projections
  • Approving expenditures
  • Consulting with relevant college and university offices regarding office space/facility management
  • Developing, leading, and encouraging fundraising to support the School
  • Providing support for grant writing and extramural funding efforts

Assessment, Program Review, and Accreditation
  • Provides direction and oversight for assessment, program review, program evaluation, and accreditation.
  • Ensures that the CSD remains in compliance with university, state, and national accreditation standards and regulations

Programmatic Infrastructure
  • Centers diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility throughout all components of the School
  • Directs and oversees program development
  • Builds and maintains academic supports for students
  • Oversees annual review of the CSD Handbook
  • Works closely with university offices related to CSD programs and initiatives

Enrollment Management Recruitment and Program Growth
  • Develops and contributes to implementing strategies for recruitment
  • Develops and oversees goals related to partnership development
  • Leads strategic planning related to partnerships and continuing education programmatic initiatives
  • Establishes, maintains, and strengthens partnerships with schools, hospitals, and other external entities

Supervisory Responsibility

The faculty and staff of CSD which currently includes 10 faculty (tenure track and clinical) and 2 staff.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
  • An earned doctorate. Training must include a graduate degree with a major emphasis in speech-language pathology, in speech language and hearing science or in audiology.
  • Record of successful higher education administrative leadership experience including long-range planning, program and curriculum development, people management, and budget and enrollment management.
  • Experience with accreditation and assessment of learning outcomes.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors
  • Strong record of teaching and scholarly productivity.
  • Evidence of collaborative and responsive interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute to a collaborative and equitable culture.
  • Evidence of effective outreach and partnerships with community, public, private, and/or government organizations.
  • A record that shows a meaningful commitment to, and demonstrated/specific accomplishments in, social justice, equity and inclusive practice.
  • Knowledge about managing budgets and allocating resources with a high level of transparency and fairness.
  • Superior communication skills- the ability to articulate a compelling message to diverse audiences; clarity in written and oral presentation.
  • A commitment to shared governance.

Working Conditions

Office environment. Occasional travel for regional and national conferences.
