Join the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's (CDFW) Lands Program in the Wildlife Branch (Headquarters), based out of West Sacramento! The Lands Program is seeking motivated staff with general ecology/biology knowledge and strong organizational and communication skills to join the team. The Lands Program engages in collaborative leadership with Regional land management staff throughout the state for tasks such as land management planning, field data collection, data management, and data analysis as well as document writing, formatting, and review. Under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor), the Environmental Services Intern will assist with Land Management Planning, coordination of Wildlife Restoration Grant funding, and the Sentinel Site Network. Land management planning may include assisting with resource inventory data collection, providing support for internal workshops and public meetings, organizing and summarizing background information, and formatting accessible documents. Assistance with Wildlife Restoration Grant coordination may consist of entering, updating, and verifying grant budgets in an internal project organization application. The Sentinel Site Network is a series of biodiversity data collection sites located throughout the state. Work may entail assisting with the installation and maintenance of climate and biodiversity sensors such as camera traps, acoustic recorders, and/or Motus stations. The incumbent may also process field data using artificial intelligence tools such as Wildlife Insights.
The Environmental Services Intern classification is a non-testing classification.

This position primarily requires working in an office environment which involves using a computer several hours a day and attending virtual or in person meetings. This may necessitate sitting most of the time and walking or standing for brief periods. Field duties include long-distance overnight travel during the field season and some short day-long trips, and may require rigorous physical work under variable conditions in the field. A minimum of two days per week must be either in-office or in the field. Must possess a valid Driver's License, be able to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle, and be able to travel using a State vehicle. Infrequent evening or weekend work may be required.
This position requires the possession of a valid Class C Driver's License. Must maintain a clean driving record. The selected candidate may be required to provide a photocopy (front and back) of the license: Name as stated on the license, issuing state, DL #, Class, expiration.
