Job Description

Key School seeks a full-time Lower School (Grades 1-4) Spanish teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. Reporting to the Lower School Division Head and Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the First and Lower School, co-curricular teachers provide integral specialty area content for students across the spectrum of age groups within the division.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, assess, and modify, as necessary, a dynamic Spanish language program for Lower School students that aligns with the Key School mission, vision, and values.
  • Design and implement high-quality learning experiences that align with the ACTFL World Language Standards to build a rigorous and engaging language program where students experience growth in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
  • Design age-appropriate lessons that incorporate experiential learning teaching methods, including experiential learning experiences such as including songs, games, storytelling, and visuals.
  • Build a Spanish-speaking environment by consistently using the target language in the classroom, encouraging student dialogue and embedding speaking and listening in the learning environment.
  • Integrates cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries into lessons to broaden student perspective and build cultural competency and appreciation for different cultures.
  • Center principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in classroom programs and practices.
  • Develop clear and positive classroom systems and procedures to proactively manage student behavior and ensure all students are fully engaged and learning.
  • Plan projects and field experiences to support curriculum and cultural experiences.
  • Assess student knowledge to refine classroom activities and provide feedback to students, families and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, and goals.
  • Collaborate with Lower School teachers, the World Language Department and other Specialists to develop interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Create a caring community for learning through thoughtful, individual relationships with all students and families.
  • Actively seeks opportunities for professional learning and program development.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned by the Lower School Division
  • Confer with World Language Department and World Language Teachers in the Middle and Upper Schools to align language programming goals.
  • Serve as a Lower School representative for the World Language Department.
  • Co-plan and lead world language initiatives including relevant Heritage Month activities and other student and school experiences.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned by the Lower School Division Head and Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

  • Engages in and seeks professional growth and development opportunities to promote lifelong learning and further knowledge and best practices in education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Spanish, unless native speaker); Master's Degree in education preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience teaching Spanish or teaching in a K-5th grade setting
  • Fluency and expertise in conversational and written Spanish
  • Strong initiative and organizational skills
  • An ability to work in a joyful, culturally responsive, and collaborative environment

Key School follows a Faculty Equity Scale that recognizes direct years of experience that correlate to the steps on the scale. The salary range for this position is $46,820-$88,305 and is based upon several factors that include, but not limited to, the candidate’s year of work experience, education and skills. There are additional opportunities on campus for coaching and various stipends, as well.

Technical Competencies:

Key is a Google Workspace for Education school. All candidates should be proficient in common productivity software and hold a solid understanding of cloud-based storage and file-sharing platforms, including applications such as Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, and Google Drive. Candidates should be able to efficiently manage their email and schedule using Gmail and Google Calendar. They should also have the ability to use and perform basic troubleshooting on common workplace technology such as printers, copiers, and projectors. Proficiency in virtual communication tools like Zoom or Google Meet is a plus.

Work Schedule/Travel:

Occasionally, there may be business and school functions that will require your presence to work flexible hours, including nights and/or weekends and travel outside of Annapolis.
