General Purpose: The Medical Interpreter will support the clinical staff by providing interpretation for non-English speaking patients. As well as performing general office duties to support the operations of their respective department Act as conduits between patients and medical professionals by listening to medical professional and interpreting information as accurately and completely as possible into a patient's native language and /or provide translation of written information. Interprets the patient's response back to the professional, using the language provided by the patient. Be able to act as a cultural bridge between the provider and the patient The interpreter may have to explain a cultural issue to either the patient or the provider. Must maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Travel to different departments and or sites base on staffing needs. Follows Interpreter Code of Ethics Responds to all pages and requests for interpretation in a timely manner. Keeps an accurate, detailed log of every interpreting encounter including data, times, language, provider name, location and patient medical record number Provides certified medical interpretation test for all staff that require to be certified. Uses appropriate phone etiquette, treating all callers with courtesy and respect. Is attentive to all callers placed on hold and diligently monitors time spent on hold. Makes appropriate referrals to the Patient Billing Coordinator for patients who cannot pay their copayment. Register patients, verify insurance confirm appointments when needed. Schedules appointments, changes appointments and cancels appointments as needed. Provides patients with information regarding specialty referrals and assists with making appointments as needed. Is knowledgeable about the sliding fee scale and is able to communicate required documentation and requirements to patients. Is able to complete all processes to enroll patients in the sliding fee scale. Obtains and labels mail with date of patients last visit and medical record number (where necessary)and distributes to providers appropriately. Is knowledgeable about policies and procedures related to patient registration, documentation requirements and collection, HIPAA/Confidentiality and all other policies and procedures related to this position. Maintains confidentiality of all aspects of the center including, but not limited to, patient confidentiality, financials, and employee relations. Attends and participates in monthly department, All Staff and other required meetings. Maintains the Nurse Proxy. Maintains the voicemail box in the Internal Medicine department. Keeps a phone log of all incoming, outgoing and voicemail calls. Returns all patient, provider, insurance and pharmacy phone calls. With assistance from nursing staff and providers fills Prior Authorizations. Transcribes all pharmacy faxes into phone notes and routes to appropriate provider. Labels all incoming faxes with date of last visit and medical record number/identification number and has provider review prior to sending them to be scanned by medical records. Acts as a liaison between provider and patient when nursing staff are on the floor performing nursing functions. Schedules complicated patients per Providers instructions. Obtains Provider signatures for important, time sensitive patient documents. Completes referrals in EMR. Perform other related duties as assigned Requirements At least one year clerical experience Experience in medical interpreting Knowledge of data entry Must speak Spanish Schedule Requirements: 5-day work week, 1 evening a week and 1 weekend a month Salary Description 18.00 per hour Cornerstone Family Healthcare
