Job Description

The purpose of a Medical Scribe at Oak Street Health is to support primary care providers with clinical documentation so they can focus on providing exceptional care to patients. Scribes assist providers throughout the patient care journey, including planning daily visits, observing and documenting patient encounters in real time, and assisting with next steps. They serve as clinical documentation assistants (Clinic Informatics Specialists) supporting accurate, specific, and timely clinical documentation, including ICD-10 and CPT coding. Scribes help identify and close care gaps, receive extensive on-the-job training in clinical workflows, value-based medicine, preventative care, documentation, population health data, and team-based care. The role is ideal for pre-med track individuals or those pursuing careers in health informatics, public health, healthcare administration, medical coding, and related fields. Responsibilities include documenting patient encounters (~80%), clinical documentation improvement (~10%), and administrative support (~10%). Required knowledge includes medical terminology and prior clinical experience preferred; skills include strong communication, computer literacy, and ability to adapt to new workflows; abilities include typing 70+ wpm preferred, excellent attendance, and commitment to at least 1 year in role. The position is full-time, approximately 40-45 hours per week, on-site in Baton Rouge, LA.
