Program Director Job Description Reports to: Camp Director
Academy Camps is an overnight sports-specific sleepaway camp experience that takes place on the campuses Blair Academy (NJ) and Suffield Academy (CT). We are seeking a Program Director to be a member of our camp leadership team and coaching staff.
Who we are Academy Camps is a modern approach to the sports camp experience. We offer 1- and 2-week sessions for Boys & Girls aged 10 - 15 interested in baseball, basketball, field hockey, football, golf, lacrosse, running, soccer, softball, squash, swimming, tennis & volleyball. Our campers choose one of our 13 "Academy Sports" and receive 2 intensive training sessions per day with our high-performance coaching staff.
We are a dedicated team of high performance coaches, nurturing & exemplary counselors, and experienced camp professionals, passionate about the 'whole athlete'. Outside of sports specific training sessions, AC is distinguished in delivering programming focused on its pillars of Performance, Wellness, Mindset, and Leadership mixed in with a healthy dose of fun through a daily schedule of traditional sleepaway camp activities.
Position As a member of the AC Leadership Team, the Program Director plays a key role in executing a dynamic and engaging daily program for campers and staff. This role involves overseeing the camp's elective programs, evening activities, and special events, ensuring that each aligns with the camp's core values of sportsmanship, mental wellness, and creating a rewarding camp experience. The Program Director is also responsible for leading the AC Cup competitions, organizing bridge weekend programming, and managing supplies and inventory. The Program Director supports the leadership team and ensures that every day is an exciting, well-coordinated experience where every camper can thrive, and counselors feel empowered and fulfilled.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: - Daily Program Management - Take full ownership of the daily camp program, ensuring the execution of an engaging schedule that aligns with Academy Camps' values. Oversee the seamless execution of sports sessions, traditional camp activities, and the integration of core pillars such as Performance, Wellness, Mindset, and Leadership.
- Manage Elective Program - Lead the implementation of the elective program, ensuring a diverse range of activities for campers to choose from. Coordinate with staff to deliver high-quality elective sessions that enhance camper engagement and personal growth.
- Oversee Evening Program - Oversee the planning and execution of evening programs, ensuring that each evening offers a balance of fun, team-building, and reflection. Ensure these activities promote camper interaction and align with the camp's overall goals.
- Lead AC Cup - Take charge of the AC Cup competition, Academy Camps' flagship event, by planning, organizing, and leading all related activities. Ensure that the competition fosters teamwork, sportsmanship, and camp spirit while providing an exciting and memorable experience for campers.
- Manage Special Events - Lead the organization of special events, from large-scale camp-wide celebrations to smaller, dorm-specific activities. Ensure that all events are well-executed, align with camp values, and provide memorable experiences for campers and staff alike.
- Bridge Weekend Program Execution - Oversee the Bridge Weekend programming, providing campers who stay multiple sessions with engaging, varied activities that balance relaxation and new experiences, keeping the energy high and excitement sustained throughout their stay.
- Supply & Inventory Management - Manage and maintain camp supplies and inventory, ensuring that all necessary materials for daily activities, electives, and special events are available and in good condition. Coordinate with staff to ensure timely replenishment and efficient use of resources.
Your Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Bachelor's degree (or professional equivalent) + 3-5 years professional experience working in a role with well-aligned proficiencies
- Experience attending and working at summer camp is required, experience at sports camps preferred
- Additional experience with programming and administering programs that reflect the camp's population is desirable
- Experience working with youth in sports or educational programs
- An excellent relationship builder - quick to connect, build trust, and rapport
- A goal-oriented coach - motivated to help our staff and athletes achieve their goals
- A creative problem-solver - with an empathetic approach to customer service, team management, and ability to ask for help when needed

Expectations, Compensation, and Benefits - Available and on-site for the dates of the full summer session including staff pre-season training and post-camp: June 13 - August 3
- Available starting May 1 to periodically (5-10 hours/wk) support pre-camp Leadership Team activities covering the following areas: Onboarding, Pre-Camp Welcome Calls, and Pre-Season Training.
- The AC compensation package is competitive and is commensurate with skills and experience. Compensation is $7,000-10,000 and includes room and board. Travel stipend provided to support relocation.
- Reside on campus - room and board included on-site at both of our campuses with access to state-of-the-art athletic facilities, providing a seamless and immersive experience.
- Option to increase compensation through Camper Referral Program: Earn $250 referral bonus for each camper enrolled.
